Comic-Con 2015: Bill Murray Rocks Hall H

You know how Bill Murray just sort of appears places? Sometimes you turn around and there he is — or at least that’s how the media often portrays it.

Comic-Con’s fabled Hall H always has its share of surprises, and if we knew Bill Murray would appear there, we still didn’t know how he was going to make his entrance.

Murray came to promote his new comedy Rock the Kasbah, which early buzz says is a return to greatness for director Barry Levinson as well.

The film sees Murray as a faded music manager touring Afghanistan, where he discovers a teenage girl with phenomenal talent. Sensing new energy in a new country, he takes her to Kabul to compete on the popular television show Afghan Star.

Timely, interesting, and Mitch Glazer’s script sounds exactly like the kind of thing that both Levinson and Murray could take to the next level — satirical and hilarious. The film also stars Bruce Willis and Zoey Deschanel, but… at least at Comic-Con, this is Murray’s show.

To prepare for Murray’s entrance, the lights went down and the trailer played. And then the music continued…

Except it was Murray at the back of the hall, playing his axe. If not rocking the Kasbah, he was certainly rocking Hall H.

As has been noted elsewhere, this guy seems completely comfortable in his own skin, and absolutely in touch with his fans. Is there an ounce of pretension there? You can’t see any.

Take a look at the pictures and see a star perfectly happy to be here.
