Some things you just don't know you need
to have until you see them. Consider this a page from the
Fanboy Skymall Catalog, largely thanks to the tireless efforts
of Michael Goodson, who ironically spent yesterday in the
air combing through the Skymall Catalog.
Alien Face-Hugger Toy
The important thing is that this is plush,
so you pre-schooler will be safe and cuddly as he or she
explores the early stages of having an alien parasite impregnate
them with its horrible spawn. I have a growing theory that
Andy Warhol needs to be updated - everyone will have his
fifteen minutes of being a plush toy.
Blaster Pendant
Let
her know that she's the one for you, your Princess for all
time. If she is, she'll just arch an eyebrow and say "I
know." And then the shooting begins.
For that person who really likes musicals
and thinks that Neil Patrick Harris is totally ginchy. Joss
Whedon released a DVD of his online Emmy-winning sensation
last summer, which includes a cast commentary that is in
itself yet another musical. So there's that.
However, Dark Horse Comics - not to be
confused with Bad Horse - released a Dr. Horrible
one-shot comic book a couple of weeks ago, and there may
be a fan in your life who doesn't read comics, but would
love to take a glimpse at "how it all began" for the good
bad Doctor. Though cartoony, the artwork stays remarkably
on model for Harris and Nathan Fillion, and let's face it,
for some fans, that's going to be all that's important.
If
you want to go the extra mile, throw in the first season
DVD of Castle, starring Fillion as a roguish crime
novelist who follows an NYPD detective on her rounds. It's
a well-written witty series, and though you might be able
to guess whodunit early and often, it's so stylishly done
that the journey is all that matters. Plus, it's Nathan
Fillion, and ladies, I know, I know. Get it and swoon.
It's going to be a tough decision - or
maybe it already was for you - as to which "Exclusive" version
of the packaging you want. For someone else, the movie may
be enough. Aside from utterly, utterly rocking as a movie,
the Blu-ray edition immerses viewers in the Enterprise at
their own pace, without those helpful guys in Starfleet
Uniforms who aren't actually employees of the museum but
still want to show you around. Ahem. I'm talking about you,
San Jose Tech Museum.
In addition, however, IDW put together
a great graphic novel prequel to the movie which really
does enrich the story. Sold out in its first printing, again
you might be introducing someone to the idea that comics
do have something to offer. So we offer that you might want
to combine the Blu-ray with a copy of Star Trek: Countdown,
the story of Nero and Spock interacting with the aged cast
of the Next Generation.
Every
single staff member of Fanboy Planet agrees. We want this
under our tree. And as it's six feet long, it's possible
for the shorter members such as myself to actually use it.
