Star Wars Celebration VI:
As You Wish Auction!

Mark Hamill relives a fond memory...

This last weekend was Star Wars Celebration VI at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Hard to believe that next year Return of the Jedi (Episode VI) will be celebrating it's 30th anniversary, I know!

Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Ian McDiarmid (The Emperor), Dave Filoni (Director of The Clone Wars), Kevin Smith (Clerks), and many more guests attended, including George Lucas himself, and a life size replica of the Rancor that may have rivaled Celebration Japan's life-size replica of the Dewback.

So with the last weekends of summer winding down, and the last of the big conventions ending the season out, having Celebration VI, and being a big Star Wars fan, I couldn't help but take a moment and address a good thing that these fans, costumers, and prop builders sometimes do.

In case you ever go to these conventions and see real legit looking Darth Vaders, Boba Fetts, or Storm Troopers, chances are they are members of the 501st Legion. You may know them as a costuming group that does many events for fun, and charity as well, especially for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the premiere wish-granting organization for children.
By your command...

At Celebration V in 2010, the TK project had over 40 Storm Trooper helmets that were re-imagined and created by various artist raising $65,250 for Make-A-Wish. Unfortunately, thenyou had to actually be there at the convention to be able to bid on these helmets. This year at CVI was a little different.

First, thanks to the Dented Helmet, an online discussion forum and information resource site designed to help fans build high quality replica costumes specifically geared towards Boba and Jango Fett, The gang there decided to take the reins and do a charity auction run similar to the TK Project's at V.

This time, they gave it not only to artists but their members to create their one of a kind items. I will have to say, they are breathtaking. And this time they have opened it up to the public to bid on these masterpieces, with all the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish.

So if you feel like owning one of these awesome pieces, you can. They are inspiring, to say the least. And as a geek myself, this tends to re-affirm Fanboy Planet's motto that sometimes it feels right to "...use your powers only for good."
