Warner Brothers Announces ‘Batman: Arkham VR’

Congratulations, Luke. This is the moment I officially decided I’m getting a Playstation 4.

Warner Brothers Interactive has teamed with Rocksteady Studios — and they’ve done pretty well with that okay Batman: Arkham series of games so far  — to create Batman: Arkham VR. That’s right. Virtual Reality Dark Knight. For now, exclusively on Playstation.

If you’ve been thinking that Virtual Reality isn’t about to take over, you’d better take a few steps back from that stance. Once Disney embraces it — say, about Thursday — it’s all over. We will all gladly be living in the matrix.

That wasn’t a facetious introduction — I can’t believe how excited I am by this announcement. What the press release doesn’t mention is that sure sounds like Mark Hamill as The Joker. Virtual Hamill? Almost as good as the real thing. Almost.

From Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Batman™: Arkham VR, the very first virtual reality experience that allows fans to Be the Batman like never before.  Developed by Rocksteady Studios, creators of the critically acclaimed Batman™: Arkham trilogy, Batman: Arkham VR is based on DC’s core Batman license and will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system with PlayStation®VR in October 2016.

Batman: Arkham VR immerses players into the Dark Knight’s universe as they experience Gotham City through the eyes of the World’s Greatest Detective.  Delving deep into an all-new Batman: Arkham mystery, those who enter this virtual reality world must think like Batman and utilize his legendary gadgets to unravel a plot that threatens the lives of his closest allies.

“Virtual reality is expanding the video game space and entertainment overall, so it is extremely exciting to have our incredible team at Rocksteady Studios dive into this new storytelling medium with the Batman Arkham franchise,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  “Rocksteady is one of the best at creating story-driven content, and Batman: Arkham VR will deliver a more immersive experience than anyone could have imagined only a few years ago.”
