It’s been at least 9 years since Marvel first said it would; finally, Miracleman continues in the way we’ve been wanting. Earlier this week, Marvel announced a 40th anniversary special, which included a story from Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham. That was a crucial clue. Though the character now known as Miracleman was evolved by Alan Moore (aka the “Original Author”) and Garry Leach with Alan Davis, Moore passed the torch to a younger less well-known Gaiman and Buckingham. Their section, “The Silver Age,” was never completed, as publisher Eclipse Comics went bankrupt and the character got entangled in a slew of legal issues.
That story involves Gaiman, Todd Mcfarlane, a “Man of Miracles,” Warrior Magazine publisher Dez Skinn, and a very old, very screwed-over British creator named Mick Anglo. That “Marvelman” was himself a way for the UK to continue publishing new adventures of the original Captain Marvel is another issue that thankfully no one has cared to fight about.
But if this latest press release is to be believed — and this time it should be — finally Miracleman continues, will conclude, and if sales warrant, lead into another. I mean, the title is just sitting there: “The Bronze Age.”
