Amie Enriquez Is No Lightweight

Amie Enriguez Is No Lightweight

In the wake of 9/11, actor Amie Enriquez struggled to maintain hope while dealing with debilitating eating disorders. She entered a 28 day program but stayed a year. After making a full recovery, the Second City-trained actor turned her experience into a one-woman show that combines comedy, ghosts, and puppets… but probably not ghost puppets. Probably.

Amie performed “Lightweight” in New York in 2019, and then again at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022. Now at the dawn of 2023, Amie will be going from Fringe Festival to Frigid Festival, returning to New York City in February. But first she performs 4 nights in Los Angeles at the Broadwater Theater. Though we’re actually neighbors, we sat down virtually after our respective work days to talk about the origins and challenges of her show, and why it’s still important to laugh in the face of trauma.
