All it took to get me to back Bixby Grant, Private Eye was cop turned mummy private eye fights werewolves. There’s more to it, of course, dripping a little noir in with a dash of Frankenstein mythos, but I was good with “mummy private eye.” Pedigree matters, too — creator Patrick Coyle teamed with Shannon Eric Denton on a great imprint called Komikwerks that featured quality comics and was perhaps ahead of its time. This project must be good if editor Heather Antos got involved.
So Coyle’s time is now. The world has no shortage of monsters, and it’s always good to see one fighting for humanity. It’s already funded, so you know that if you back Bixby Grant, you’ll get the book. Coyle has made it affordable, too — the basic level for a PDF of the 80-page graphic novel is only $10. Tut, tut, why not give it a shot?
From RNM Press:
RNM Press’ first original graphic novel and first Kickstarter campaign fully funded in 12 hours, and continues to go strong, unlocking stretch goals with every passing day. This 80-page prestige format graphic novel by creator/writer Patrick Coyle, artist Gonzalo Martinez (Road Story, Mocha Dick), colorist Arthur Hesli (Heavy Metal), letterer Steve Wands (Batman, The Flash), and editor Heather Antos (Deadpool, Star Wars) is available exclusively on Kickstarter through November 17th 2022!
“Cop turned into a mummy becomes a PI. Fights werewolves. Helped by a scientist who wants to be a gunslinger and the Doc’s sister’s mind is in a robot body. Looks like Patrick Coyle is having Too Much Fun. Count me in!” Says Harley Quinn writer and Impossible Jones creator Karl Kesel.
Patrick Coyle, creator of Bixby Grant, attributes the success of the campaign to the talent involved. “We’ve been getting so much positive reaction from the backers. They love the comic’s concept, but even more, they love Gonzalo and Arthur’s art. And I might be a little biased, but I have to agree – the book is gorgeous. Not to mention our variant covers!”
The comic features two variant covers from Eisner, Harvey, and Inkpot award-winner Rafael Albuquerque (Detective Comics, American Vampire) and Eisner-nominated creator Jesse Lonergan (Hedra, Planet Paradise), in addition to the main cover by interior artist Gonzalo Martinez.
With several different price points and great rewards, retailers and readers of all ages will find a Reward Tier that appeals to them. Bixby Grant, Private Eye, is available for pre-order now on Kickstarter.
In addition to running Fanboy Planet, Derek has contributed stories to Arcana Comics (The Greatest American Hero) and Monsterverse Comics (Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave). He has performed with ComedySportz, City Lights Theater Company and Silicon Valley Shakespeare, though relocated to Hollywood to... work in an office? If you ever played Eric's Ultimate Solitaire on the Macintosh, it was Derek's voice as The Weasel that urged you to play longer.
