20 years ago, young Ben Tennyson became the keeper of the Omnitrix. This powerful alien device allows him to transform into various alien beings with powers to help him fight menaces on Earth and anywhere that needs him. And to be honest, it also allowed kids all kinds of imaginative adventures if their parents bought them an Omnitrix of their very own. As a parent of a child who had a lot of Ben10 toys, this impending DVD release feels like home.
A Cartoon Network staple that evolved with various subtitles and two movies, Ben10 wore its comic book roots on its sleeve. Created by the collective Man of Action (John Kent, Clark Murphy, Joe Casey, Steven T. Seagle, Duncan Rouleau, and Joe Kelly), it echoed the old DC Comics series Dial H For Hero, except Ben had a lot more control over which alien he would become.
I’m thrilled to see this get a physical media release. As Cartoon Network’s parent company seems to be shuffling its shows around streaming services, it’s a gift to have a series this inventive sit reassuringly on your shelf. For the animated continuity, this is comprehensive, but it looks like they’re missing the two live-action films Alex Winter directed. So… another release?
