Carl Choi: Dedicated to Comics 247

Dedicated to comics 247

Carl Choi has been many things: agent, producer, writer, actor. At heart, though, he’s a comics fan. He’s co-founded a new publishing imprint attracting top talent, 247 Comics. Their most recent Kickstarter campaign brought Wicked Town’s Frank Stokes onboard as campaign manager, and at L.A. Comic Con last month we all crossed paths.

What impresses me about Choi is there are no games here. Right on his business card is the statement of purpose: they’re going to develop comics into transmedia IP for movies, TV, games, what have you. And in the marketplace today, that’s a smart move if a creator wants to have a bit of a life, too.

Last week the three of us connected via Streamyard to talk about Carl’s influences, what he looks for in a good comic, and how he’s going to free creators who feel trapped by the medium they love.
