To a certain generation, it doesn’t matter what each cool production design does to update Batman. There’s only one true Batmobile. Though technically six authentic ones exist. It’s the one Adam West and his stunt double drove through the streets of Gotham City. You know it. You can already hear the phrase “turbines to speed…” and see the flames shooting out of the tail pipes.
Now, thanks to Fanhome and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, you can build your own. It won’t be full size because who has the right garage? Caves outside the city are harder to find than you think. No, this one measures just over 2 feet when completed. Because Fanhome wants to give you the thrill of discovery; you subscribe to get the pieces and the instructions to put them all together to create Bat-glory.
And I’m proving it here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.
They promise the completed replica will include the Bat-phone, Bat-scope, emergency turn lever, and of course the iconic Bat-shaped steering wheel. That’s functional and will turn the wheels of the car. It may be wrong of me, but I also choked up with the following details:
Opening doors, hood, and trunk panels as well as LED effects for the headlights and an illuminated afterburner that is accented with jet sound effects add to the realism of the Fanhome Batmobile.
Fanhome designers studied George Barris’ original design “…exhaustively.” Barris built it from a 1955 Lincoln Futura; you can build it from die-cast metal parts. The website also promises that all you need is the screwdriver they send with the first package.
Subscribing brings you more than the means of living a dream (though none of us can fit in the car). You get monthly magazines tracing the history of the Caped Crusader from 1939 to now. That covers comics, graphic novels, and modern movies but stopping for emphasis on the belovedĀ Batman ’66.
Having a lot of magazines lying around can be a problem, so subscribers also get a branded binder to keep them all in order. No binder will contain the additional “gifts”: a detailed, 1:43 scale die-cast miniature of the Batmobile, a trio of large (12×16 inches) full-color, frameable posters, a baseball cap, ceramic mug, and a Batmobile metal license plate replica.
It sounds almost too good to be true, and let’s not hide it — it’s not a cheap replica. But you can check out the subscription package for yourself here and decide if it’s right for you. Read carefully, as any good citizen of Gotham would.
Fanboy Planet is not affiliated with Fanhome. This just seems like a fun thing to build.
