To celebrate and deep dive into writer Arie Kaplan’s soon-to-be-published Encyclopedia of Epic Myths and Legends, a group of Kaplan’s friends join him for a panel at Comic-Con Friday night July 26 at 7 pm in Room 29AB. Not coincidentally titled “Epic Myths and Legends,” the panel promises to talk about the resonance of stories and why they matter.
So I reached out to a friend of mine who will be on that panel, Mark Hoffmeier. I first met him at a stand-up comedy festival, and it turned out we had many mutual friends in the improv community. Then later I discovered that IMdb page with many, many credits in animation that made me think he’s written many of our children’s epic myths and legends.
Call this a preview conversation for that Friday night panel, though I’m sure we went in directions the panel won’t, from the Civil War to Siegfried and Roy to Stan Lee. But maybe. It’s Comic-Con. Anything can happen.
