Turnabout is fair play. Brie Larson should now get to play Minnie Mouse. Continuing the series of variant covers to celebrate #Disney100, Marvel offers up some iconic heroines played by other iconic heroines. We talked about this initiative on a recent podcast, and it won’t be surprising if these show up as t-shirts in the Disney parks.
Minnie stands in for Carol Danvers. Daisy Duck gets two covers, as both Ghost-Spider and Ms. Marvel. Look, we don’t want to expose any secrets here, but that must mean Minnie is significantly older than Daisy. Technically that’s true. Before Minnie punches us into space, let’s just admit she looks darned good for 95.
From Marvel:
The Walt Disney Company will mark its 100th anniversary in 2023 and will celebrate the incredible storytellers, creators, and fans who, together, spark the magic and wonder of Disney. Disney100 is a celebration of timeless storytelling and unforgettable characters that have entertained and inspired people of all ages for a century, and Marvel Comics will be marking the occasion with a special monthly DISNEY100 VARIANT COVER PROGRAM featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and more.
The variant program in honor of Disney100 will celebrate Marvel’s past, present, and future through the classic “What If” lens with a fantastic reimagining of Marvel’s most classic comic book covers. Fans have already seen these first-of-their-kind art pieces pay homage to the foundational stories of the Marvel Universe and celebrate some of Marvel’s more modern game-changing stories! Now, see Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck suit up as three of Marvel’s most inspirational Super Heroes: Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Ghost-Spider! The new covers place Minnie and Daisy in key turning points like Carol Danvers getting ready to go higher, further, and faster in Captain Marvel (2014) #1, Kamala Kahn’s first solo outing in Ms. Marvel (2014) #1, and Ghost-Spider’s multiverse shattering debut, Edge of Spider-Verse (2014) #2.
With 12 covers in total, fans can look forward to a new Disney100 variant cover (also available in Black and White versions) hitting stands each month of 2023 at local comic book shops. The variant covers will be found on select upcoming issues of Amazing Spider-Man with the next one appear on milestone issue AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #25 on May 10.
