When Disney first bought Marvel, books like Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime were what I’d hoped we’d get. Not just variant covers, but Disney comics in “the mighty Marvel manner.” More than ten years later, we finally have them, and being honest, it’s been 50/50. As in, that Uncle Scrooge book ROCKED, while What If — ? Donald Duck Became Wolverine was odd — a collection of jokes and references to Marvel events through a lens of Disney puns.
But I bought it, and I ordered What If — ? Donald Duck Became Thor, so I’m a Disney sucker. Anyone who knows me already knows that. At least all of these have brought accomplished Disney comics artists into the fold of Marvel. It can’t be stressed enough that the main players of Disney cartoons have been kept alive for decades in European comics, and they’re excellent.
Minnie Mouse as Captain Marvel? I’m on board. At least the press release makes it seem that Carol Danvers’ origin is fusing with an accurate Minnie Mouse story. One other question, which is not for Marvel to solve, can we reach consensus on what we call Pete? He’s listed here as Peg Leg Pete, but I thought that had been dropped. Ah, well — it’s just more delving into Disney comics history, which others are reprinting beautifully under license from the House of Mouse.
