Because I’m a huge fan of The Rocketeer, I can vouch that Longbox Heroes does great work with action figures. In collaboration with Dave Stevens’ estate, the toy company has expanded into a small line of villains for The Rocketeer. Each figure looks terrific. So it’s with no small interest that I note my friend Shannon Eric Denton is collaborating with Longbox Heroes through the Monster Forge Productions banner.
What’s not surprising if you know Shannon is that it isn’t starting with a character from the growing Monster Forge stable, though obviously The Kraken would fit beautifully. The first figure is Kerry Conran’s Sky Captain, from the film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. While I can’t deny the movie didn’t quite hit me as well as I had hoped, the characters were a great idea. So if you want to team Sky Captain with The Rocketeer, soon you can.
We’ll no doubt be crossing paths with Shannon at SDCC, so keep an eye out for more.
From Monster Forge Productions:
Monster Forge, in collaboration with Longbox Heroes and BigBadWorkshop, is proud to announce the debut of Sky Captain as part of the all-new Longbox Heroes Prestige 1/12 scale collectible figure line.
A tribute to retro-futuristic aviation heroes, the Sky Captain figure brings vintage pulp aesthetics together with modern toy engineering. Created in close partnership with Sky Captain visionary Kevin Conran, the figure captures the spirit of classic adventure cinema with stunning detail and premium craftsmanship.
“I couldn’t be more excited,” said Shannon Eric Denton, founder of Monster Forge. “Not only am I a huge fan of the genre, but working directly with Kevin Conran again—after producing Sky Captain and the Art of Tomorrow book—makes this figure feel like the next chapter in that creative journey.”
“I’m a huge toy fan obviously, but I was also lucky enough to work on the Sky Captain film,” added Bill Murphy. “So I’m incredibly excited to revisit Sky Captain again, but this time as an action figure.”
This release marks the beginning of Monster Forge’s collaboration with the Longbox Heroes Prestige line, a new initiative developed by BigBadWorkshop to bring iconic characters and imaginative worlds to collectors with elevated design and storytelling.
As part of the launch, the Prestige line will also include officially licensed characters from The Rocketeer universe, reimagined with fresh designs and high-end articulation. For Denton, this aspect is personal: “I was lucky to call Rocketeer creator Dave Stevens a friend and even worked on the Rocketeer Jr. show at Disney. Being part of this world again is truly a joy.”
BigBadWorkShop’s Longbox Heroes Prestige line will be available exclusively through BigBadToyStore.com.
Stay tuned for additional reveals, pre-order info, and release dates as the full wave of figures is cleared for takeoff.
