Now it can be told. Really. I had to wait until Comic-Con International San Diego released the schedule. A while back, we got the scoop that Australian publisher IPI Comics would be reviving The Human Fly, a one-time Marvel character licensed from the real-life stuntman who portrayed him. On Friday night at SDCC, I’ll be talking with IPI publisher Gerry Huntman and EIC Christopher Sequeira about their publishing in general, and the Human Fly in particular. Also on board will be writers for both IPI and its parent, IFWG Publishing, as well as those that keep the secrets of the fly.
Join us at Grand 12 & 13, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina at 7 pm for Human Fly Superheroes, Monsters, and More — details below:
Derek McCaw (fanboyplanet.com) moderates a session with IFWG Publishing’s managing director Gerry Huntman and subsidiary entity IPI Comics’ editor-in-chief Christopher Sequeira, talking about the prose and nonfiction books and comic books they have coming up. Special excitement surrounds books on Frankenstein, Cthulhu, and Nosferatu with contributions from top genre authors; the smash hit YA fantasy series Smoking Mirror by David Bowles; and such comic books as a new series featuring the spectacular return of former Marvel hero, the real-life masked stuntman The Human Fly! Panelists include Human Fly International’s Alan Brewer and Tony Babinski (who know all the secrets of The Fly), and writers David Bowles and Dana Brawer.
I’m particularly pleased to meet up with Bowles again, who I paneled with at WorldCon San Jose, and whose writing has only been growing in popularity. Long-time friend Sequeira and new friend Huntman will be signing their new Kolchak Nosferatu anthology at Dark Delicacies in Burbank right before Comic-Con on Sunday, July 16. See you there… and there… and if you play your cards right, we’ll find another there to see you.
