For the past few months, I’ve had conversations with comics creator/stuntman/possible Illuminati fighter Matthew Dickens. Not only has he given me a passionate download on the history of movie stunt work, but he’s also been on an intense decade(s)-long pilgrimage to the historical sites that play into his upcoming graphic novelĀ Shitkicker Bullseye: The Devil’s Train.
At Comic-Con this year, Bliss on Tap Publishing (Booth #5533) will have an exclusive preview edition of the graphic novel. Some of it may be different from the first issue that came out last summer, but these days, I think a full volume is the way to go. Dickens has a new artist onboard, JC Fabul, and offered me some preview images and a few photos from his travels.
People, he’s been to the inspiration for Dracula’s castle in Cruden Bay, Scotland, sharing with me that it also inspired the “silent castle of Cobra” in G.I. Joe. He’s been to the castle used in Highlander. So I have to share. What I won’t share is just how many easter eggs he’s planted in this book — all I will say is you may need to brush up on your Umberto Eco.
Remember — this is about a time-traveling stuntman getting a gang together to rob the Devil’s Train. It isn’t just epic; it feels like the epic Matthew DickensĀ lived.
