If you watched the Tonys last night, you may have already caught this — and it may have caught you by surprise. But of course it debuted on the Tonys, because Hamilton creator/composer/actor Lin-Manuel Miranda has also continued his deserved wave of conquering the entertainment industry by writing music for a Disney film. (He’ll soon star in one, too, but that’s another story.)
So we get a glimpse of Moana, featuring Dwayne Johnson as Maui (complete with signature eyebrow lift) and a singularly unimpressed Auli’i Cravalho as the title character. She counts as a Disney princess, too, but that’s not as important as her navigation skills. Announced last summer at D23, we get Moana at Thanksgiving, and it looks like another Disney Animation winner.
