Just a few days ago, I ran the teaser for The Munsters, but now Universal has released The Munsters full trailer. While using some famous costume pieces from the original series, it looks like Rob Zombie’s comedy will be more of a prequel to the classic TV series. Let us hope that means he will get to move from monstrous rom-com to macabre sit-com in a sequel.
At least this explains why we’ve gotten announcements on cast members without once mentioning who plays Herman and Lily’s son Eddie. Our little wolf boy hasn’t been born yet. And clearly the black sheep of the family, the beautiful niece Marilyn, hasn’t come to live with them yet. Let the Frankenstein Monster and the Daughter of Dracula settle in to domestic bliss on 1313 Mockingbird Lane for this film. Let this franchise live a long, healthy afterlife.
Rob Zombie’s The Munsters stars Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman and Daniel Roebuck as The Count. It will release this September from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. That likely means it’s direct to video, but I’d hope that Universal might find it in their heart to plan a limited theatrical run. I can’t be the only one who wants to see this on a big screen, can I?
