SDCC 2024: Wellness for Geeks Who Sit

The panel on Saturday is called “Wellness for Geeks Who Sit,” and… well, who among us doesn’t that fit? We try. We all try. And Chronicle Books (Booth #1508) wants to help. They’ve got the Marvel Fitness Deck, 50 cards with simple exercises led by Marvel heroes but fit for those of us without superpowers.

Can we do them in our home offices? If we follow the inspiration of Hawkeye’s dog Lucky, will our own dogs interfere? I’ll let you know after Comic-Con is over and see if my chiweenie is as supportive of me as I’ve been of him. The deck is designed with accessible everyday exercises in mind, and Chronicle was kind enough to let me share a couple of cards here: Photon Sit-Ups and LuckyDownwardDog.

“Irresistibly illustrated with beloved characters demonstrating physical fitness activities and created with a range of ability in mind, the step-by-step exercises featured on each card are presented in a playfully inviting way. Created by Robyn Warren, M.S. Ed. of Geek Girl Strong, who will be hosting a panel on pop-culture inspired fitness:

SATURDAY 4PM – 5PM Wellness for Geeks Who Sit — Calling all gamers, writers, cosplayers, artists, and desk dwellers! Robyn Warren (B.S./M.S.Ed., founder of Geek Girl Strong) leads a workshop designed to help you with those aches and pains that we develop from being hunched over the latest armor build or beating the final boss. Discover the secrets to conquering seated life, con floor, and beyond with mobility stretches and strength movements. Plus, unlock sustained energy with bonus nutritional tips. Note: This is a seated movement workshop tailored with various body types in mind. Grand 10 & 11, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

In addition to the Marvel Fitness Deck, Chronicle Books has its usual array of books and products with a keen eye on superheroes. Also, if you stop by and pick up the Fitness Deck early, there’s a chance they’ll still have the bonus gift of a Marvel cooling towel.
