Looking like Gremlins takes the millennium, Y2K taps into the real hysteria surrounding people partying like it’s 1999. Directed and co-written by Kyle Mooney, Y2K brings us terror at dial-up speeds courtesy of A24 on December 6.

On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives in this dial-up disaster comedy.
The film stars Jaeden Martell (IT), Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Deadpool 2), and musicians The Kid Laroi and Fred Durst. It’s an eclectic cast, and this speaks volumes for Zegler, currently burning up Broadway in Romeo + Juliet but also taking premature heat for Disney’s upcoming Snow White.
I’m here for it. Mooney co-wrote and starred in one of my favorite movies from 2017, Brigsby Bear. He’s got a twisted sense of humor that still has a strange amount of heart. Though his time on Saturday Night Live didn’t click with everyone, he was at least carving his own path. Y2K carries a vibe that says it may not be for everyone, but those of us who will like it will probably love it. And we’ll know it’s human, hand-made, and original.
