It’s June of 2025 and I can still be pleasantly surprised. On the eve of half-zombie half-superhero Halloween Man turning 25, it turns out that Red 5 Comics will be releasing a new trade collection of this quirky series. That includes stories illustrated by Nicola Scott and Sergio Calvet, and a cross-over with Tim Seeley’s Hack/Slash illustrated by David Baldeón. Of course, they’re curated by series creator Drew Edwards.
I have a few Red 5 Comics trades, and this is the first time I’ve seen the imprint “Dread 5.” If it took Drew Edwards to point out the possibilities of such a pun, good for him!
There’s more to it, but I’ll let the press release speak to it. Aside from the story quality of Halloween Man, it’s fun. Right now, that’s exactly what I’m looking for, and though we have to wait until September for this book, I doubt my attitude will have changed. Keep an eye on Fanboy Planet for some further news about Drew and Halloween Man.
From Red 5 Comics:
Red 5 Comics and Ringo Award-nominated creator Drew Edwards are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of HALLOWEEN MAN: VOL. 1, a lovingly restored collection that brings the early days of the long-running indie favorite back to print. Launching in September 2025, this brand-new volume arrives just in time to kick off the Halloween season with a thrilling blend of monsters, mayhem, and heart.
This isn’t just a collection—it’s a celebration.
Marking the 25th anniversary of the fan-favorite horror hero, Vol. 1 spotlights some of the best stories from the series’ formative years. From its scrappy beginnings as a webcomic to becoming a cult sensation in the indie scene, Halloween Man has stood the test of time—delivering horror with humor, monsters with meaning, and a heart that refuses to stop beating.
Curated and written by Drew Edwards—whose genre-savvy storytelling blends social commentary, monster-movie homage, and deeply human character work—this collection features early contributions from some of the biggest names in comics today, including:
A rare crossover with Hack/Slash, penciled by David Baldeón
Early American comic pages from Nicola Scott
Fan-favorite art from Sergio Calvet, the series’ signature visual voice
Restored and remastered pages from the original files by art director April Guadiana
A brand-new cover by Nicola Scott & Annette Kwok, reintroducing the world to Solomon Hitch in true spooky style
A brand-new introduction by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Penny Dreadful, Gladiator, Skyfall), offering a personal and powerful perspective on Halloween Man’s legacy
Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to the strange saga of Solomon Hitch—the undead everyman who battles vampires, mad science, and cosmic horror—this collection is both a perfect jumping-on point and a must-have for collectors.
“This book is more than a reprint,” says creator Drew Edwards. “It’s a time capsule. A love letter to the fans, collaborators, and weirdos who kept this dream alive. I’ve poured my heart into these stories, and I’m honored to bring them back with Red 5’s support and the incredible creative team who helped shape this world.”
