Since accidentally watching a frightening horror classic at age 7, author Brian Fitzpatrick has told stories. About 15 years he got serious about a writing career, first as a screenwriter. Winning contests didn’t always translate into selling screenplays, so he turned one of his favorites into a novel. Thus launched the MECHCRAFT trilogy.
That best-selling book opened new doors, including the opportunity to write in an RPG world. That novel, To Slay a God, just arrived in bookshops, and he’ll be working on the next campaign in the Black Ballad universe from Storytellers Forge. And yes, the screenwriting is still going strong, with the upcoming The Simian Trials in post-production.
Brian and I met at Wondercon and determined we’d find time to talk in June. Okay, so I missed it by a day, but as his birthday is in a couple of days, just consider it a more timely birthday present. Except of course, I’m the one that got the present in a lively conversation about creativity and a fun twist on D&D tropes.
