Eisner nominee Jim Ousley loves straight up horror. The Atonement Bell (there’s that Eisner nom) and most recently writing for John Carpenter’s Tales for a Halloweenight prove it. But as our conversation reveals, Ousley has police work in his blood. His latest, The Agony of Stars, may be more detective story than gruesome horror. Unless you consider how cruel we can be to each other gruesome.
A brutal serial killer stalks retired police officers outside of Memphis. Though the killer hasn’t been seen, the key may rest in the mind of a senior citizen with dementia.
The book launched a Kickstarter campaign last week. While Red 5 Comics is the imprint, the collapse of Diamond has meant smaller publishers have to make a splash online first. I’ve been looking forward to Ousley’s next project sight unseen, so when I have the chance to shine a little light on it, I’m plugging that spotlight in.
