A few months ago, Emily Goss joined us to talk about Cinequest and her writing/directing debut with her short film, “A Little House in Aberdeen.” It tackles a subject that was difficult and controversial then, and that was before the Supreme Court’s recent decision was even leaked.
Thanks to the site Filmshortage.com, I’m able to share this short film with you now, and so happy that I can just a couple of days after hearing that Cinequest will be holding a live in-person event in August. Because it’s giving light to films like this that makes film festivals so vital. UPDATE: The direct link for tickets to the short film program is here.
As we discussed then, this is a short that takes place in real time as a young woman undergoes an abortion procedure. It’s a single take, a monologue delivered brilliantly by Goss herself. As I said then, many of us have little to no idea how long it takes, how simple it may seem to be, regardless of how we feel about the issue itself. This short may not change your mind at all, nor is that my intention in sharing it. But it does provide insight. Please be aware that you may find this short unsettling, but it’s also beautifully done.
I first interviewed Emily for her starring role in the horror film The House on Pine Street. From that film, I knew she was a talented actor. With this, you need to know that Emily is an artist to watch.
