Spinning out of an ongoing that itself spun out of [amazon text=Future’s End&asin=1401252443], this seems more a regrouping than an out and out relaunch. Artist Bernard Chang and writer Dan Jurgens have been working on Batman Beyond for over a year already, in which an adult and somewhat embittered Tim Drake had worn the mantle of the Bat in the future. Like Terry McGuinness, he has an uneasy relationship mentored by an aged Bruce Wayne.
But at the WonderCon panel this past weekend, Dan DiDio and Jim Lee confirmed that Terry would return as the title character, and that’s what fans wanted. So maybe this event really is just straightening things out after they’d gotten off track. Sometimes you really do have to give the people what they want. Now if DC could guarantee that they’ll buy it…
