Deadpool 3 Has Claws

Deadpool 3 has claws

As promised, Ryan Reynolds will debut in the MCU as Deadpool, and Deadpool 3 has claws. Wolverine’s claws. If Reynolds’ twitter message isn’t messing with us, that is. (That’s our obligatory out if this was one more GREAT but cruel prank between the two actors.)

It’s been danced around for years as Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have a friendly rivalry based on deep friendship and filmmaker Shawn Levy. Who, naturally enough, will be directing Deadpool 3How do we know the friendship between Reynolds and Jackman is real? Do you know how hard it was to get opening night tickets to The Music Man?

At any rate, the fan dream come true has been announced by Reynolds on Twitter. He wasn’t at D23 Expo to announce it. He may have been in Wrexham. We can forgive it all being held so under wraps that Kevin Feige couldn’t announce this in Anaheim. Forget about Robert Downey, Jr. Now only one man can upstage Kevin Feige, and his name is Ryan Reynolds.

With this, we also have a release date: September 6, 2024. Securely in Phase 5, if Deadpool cares about such things. As long as things don’t shuffle, Deadpool 3 will come after Thunderbolts and before Fantastic Four. More importantly, the one hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who would be very aware of his place in the multiverse as a fictional character could be a warning bell for Secret Wars. Bets on whether or not he peeks under Doctor Doom’s mask?

As mentioned, Levy will direct the film, with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning from the previous Fox films.

While exciting to consider Jackman playing Wolverine after saying never again, we should legitimately consider this an opportunity to pass the claws on to another actor. Jackman remains the definitive Logan, but he’s in his 50s, and unless they pull an Old Man Logan plot, it’s hard to imagine him carrying through the MCU into Phase 6.

Still, we’re ready.
