Farewell Team Venture?

Farewell Team Venture

On July 21, we may say farewell to Team Venture as their final adventure, Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, hits VOD. The blu-ray arrives July 25, and from all indications, after this it’s gone, Team Venture. For fans, it’s been a heck of a run. For those yet to discover The Venture Bros., Warner Bros. Discovery releases the complete series — with pretty comprehensive extras — on June 13.

It’s always been a cliffhanger for us to find out if the show would continue. In a weird way, that may be one reason the quality has been so consistently high. It took 15 years for 7 seasons to appear, and it was scant consolation that we’d get this movie in lieu of a Season 8. But it still is a consolation, because show creators Chris McCulloch (aka “Jackson Publick”) and Doc Hammer are taking it out on their terms. I hope. I also hope that this will be successful enough that suddenly we’ll hear they get to make another movie, if they want to.

What is now Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart was originally commissioned for what was then HBO Max, but let’s take this as a good sign that it’s getting a push first on home video, with allegedly a Max release 90 days later.

As we return to the Ventures, it’s almost business as usual. Doc Venture (James Urbaniak) has a new invention that will either bankrupt Venture Industries or change the world. Hank (McCulloch) refines himself as a loner and Dean (Michael Sinterniklaas) tries to bring him back. Brock (Patrick Warburton) keeps on brocking, and the Monarch (McCulloch) flits around. Will we finally get an answer to the mystery of the boys’ mother? Does it matter? And just how dangerous is the baboon heart’s blood?

Also joining and returning: Nina Arianda (Being the Ricardos) as Mantilla, Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Red Death, John Hodgman (Up Here) as Snoopy, Hal Lublin (Welcome to Night Vale) as Clayton, Jane Lynch (Glee) as Bobbi St. Simone, Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick) as Jefferson Twilight, Jay Pharoah (Spinning Gold) as Nuno Blood, Steven Rattazzi (New Amsterdam) as Dr. Orpheus, JK Simmons (Whiplash) as Ben and Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) as The Alchemist.

People, if you’re looking forward to the upcoming revamp of Blade, you need to spend some time with Jefferson Twilight first.

That’s July 25 for the blu-ray, thankfully after Comic-Con so I can really dig in to it.
