For those of you who found actor Sam Reid’s portrayal of Lestat de Lioncort the best thing in AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, fear not. The Vampire Lestat returns to take center stage for season 3. Showrunner Rolin Jones seems to have figured out a way to keep the series title accurate.
In Anne Rice’s novel The Vampire Lestat, the rock star vampire made sure everyone knew he was telling his own story. But it wasn’t an interview. At Comic-Con yesterday, AMC presented a lengthy teaser to set up Season 3, and the conceit still involves Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), the interviewer in the title of the show. Now it’s a documentary, which sets up interesting visual possibilities. Lestat would approve.
My biggest fear for this season was how to establish theĀ band called The Vampire Lestat. As you can tell from the short, Lestat comes out of hiding and immediately establishes himself as one of the biggest rock stars in the world. Louis’ (Jacob Anderson) last lines in season 2 were “spoken” by Lestat in Rice’s titular novel.
But you can tell Sam Reid has adapted Lestat’s swagger to the 21st century quite well, and the song by composer Daniel Hart sampled here fits. I can believe that Lestat can take the music world by storm, though one wonders if he’ll have to battle Taylor Swift and an army of K-pop and J-pop stars.
