SDCC 2025: Godzilla Smashes Back to San Diego

Godzilla smashes back to San Diego

When Godzilla comes to town, the King of the Monsters leaves a big footprint. In years past, San Diego has endured an all-out kaiju attack, and Toho Studios has  shown up with an incredible Godzilla mini-museum.

But really, the Big G still has momentum from last year’s Godzilla Minus One and a resurgence of interest in Shin Godzilla, with that film’s director Shinji Higuchi making appearances at various locations throughout the convention. Locations, I say, because it isn’t all just on the floor of the San Diego Convention Center.

Toy company Super 7 will be dedicating its annual pop-up store to Godzilla and friends. Located at 701 8th Ave just outside the Gaslamp District, the store will have rarities and exclusives, with a promise of other fan experiences. That’s on top of Bandai Namco offering a Godzilla figure at their convention store, with posters and Den of Geek offering give-away events throughout the weekend.

“We’re thrilled to partner with our incredible licensees to bring Godzilla to life in new, interactive ways at Comic-Con,” said Kristin Parcell, General Manager of Toho International. “This year’s convention marks an exciting chapter in Godzilla’s legacy, with unforgettable moments for fans old and new.”

Let us not forget that Godzilla has a large presence in comics, perhaps never bigger than this year. In addition to fighting the Justice League and the entire Marvel Universe, the mighty kaiju has starred in a steady stream of comics from IDW Publishing. The publisher will launch a new Godzilla #1 at Comic-Con, and have a signing with creators from the Kai-Sei era of Godzilla.

More has been promised, but for now, that’s a lot of Godzilla already. And I welcome it.
