Every now and then, you encounter a true renaissance man on the circuit. As a young man, musician Keith Arem got into sound engineering and built PCB Productions, starting out recording some of your favorite video games, such as the Call of Duty franchise. We first met at Cinequest nine years ago when one of his films, The Phoenix Incident, was selected. Our conversation then gave me the shivers, mostly for what he told us off the record.
Keith has been a regular presence at Comic-Con, long before I realized I wanted to pay attention to his work. We’ve said hello in passing over the years, and last year he released a graphic novel co-created by Wesley Snipes. This year he landed at Comic-Con with Frost Road, a science fiction horror tale co-created with artist Christopher Shy. An amalgam of survival horror stories that is still its own creepy thing, the first printing launched through Kickstarter has sold out. But as Keith revealed in our conversation, that doesn’t mean it’s the end for people being able to read the story. 
I’m hoping I’ll be able to share updates on its release — the deluxe edition is gorgeous, with Shy’s artwork building on a sense of gloom, doom, and madness. Of course, Keith bases his stories on a kernel of scientific possibility so… as he once told me, once you know, you can’t un-know.
Also, what does Keith know about popular terrifying convention mainstay Mr. Floats? I don’t know, but if I find both of them at the upcoming L.A. Comic Con, I’ll definitely ask.
