Meanwhile, over at Star Wars Celebration, the casting of Thrawn has been announced. Lucasfilm searched far and wide and… no, they did the right thing, which was look back at Rebels. The voice of Grand Admiral Thrawn will become the face of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen sits in the command chair for Ahsoka.

If you have not watched the animated series, Grand Admiral Thrawn is a Chiss, a blue-skinned red-eyed race from the Unknown Regions. Normally they shun outsiders, but for reasons of their own allowed Thrawn to work his way into Imperial Forces. A cunning strategist, Thrawn proved a deadly threat to the Rebellion. Originally created by writer Timothy Zahn in what is now called “the Thrawn trilogy,” Thrawn has been one of the few characters from pre-Disney “Legends” continuity to cross over.

But Dave Filoni knows a good villain when he sees one.

When Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) appeared in The Mandalorian and later The Book of Boba Fett, she made it clear that she was hunting the vanished Thrawn. Since she’s not technically a Jedi, she can surely seek vengeance.

Several characters from the animated series have made the jump to live-action, so far mostly played by their voice actors. Mikkelsen’s role as Thrawn began in Season 2 of Rebels, but some fans may recognize him from Sherlock. While he’s bedeviling Ahsoka Tano, his younger brother Mads will be making life miserable for Indiana Jones.
