Is AI inevitable? Though we still have a choice, it’s getting harder and harder to avoid. In the process of creating this video conversation, each program offered me at least one AI option or tool before I could actually get down to what I wanted to do. Filmmaker Leo Partible hasn’t exactly embraced “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” However, he has joined a company that provides what he calls “assistive AI,” not Generative AI.
In the first part of our conversation, it became clear that Leo venerates human creativity. I thought we’d never get around to actually talking about AIM Direct, he is so passionate about the humanities. So why use AI at all? That’s the perspective I wanted to unpack, and we need to have more of these kinds of discussions.
If you’re in Los Angeles, Leo will be offering creativity classes in Filipino Town, to encourage the abilities he thinks creators need navigating through all this.
So he and I are sort of on the same side while having opposing views. We both agree that, as he puts it, “authenticity is the highest frequency for everyone.” I welcome any discussion we can have on this, and am grateful that Leo and I could open this dialogue.
