The cover for Werewolf Frankenstein had taunted me from a couple of local comics shops. Slick and ghoulishly inviting, that title offered a monster mashup the likes of which I hadn’t seen. But you get it immediately. The Frankenstein Monster gets the curse of the werewolf, and writer Chris Robinson has launched a saga filled with thrills, chills, outright fun, and a little romance. Because of course there has to be a Bride of Werewolf Frankenstein.
At last month’s Pasadena Comic Con I met Chris and bought the books. They went right to the top of my read pile, and I knew I wanted to talk with him further. Especially since as an editor, Chris Robinson was responsible for pulling together Image Comics’ reproduction of the legendary groundbreaking All-Negro Comics from 1947.
In this first part of our conversation, we focus on those fictional monsters, whether they be from Universal, Hammer, or the mind of Chris Robinson. Part 2 will dive into All-Negro Comics.
