Phil Mucci and the Paranormal Playboy

Phil Mucci and the Paranormal Playboy

For some time, I’ve been touting the sheer fun of the world of Professor Dario Bava. Originally created for a music video by filmmaker Phil Mucci, this mash-up of great (and sometimes cheesy) ’60s Italian films wouldn’t disappear. It’s cheeky. It’s thrilling. It’s bloody fun, pun intended.

As Mucci and his partners at Diabolik LLC kickstart the second volume of the first Dario Bava epic “Orgy of the Blood Freaks,” I finally had a formal conversation with him. We cover the origins of the character, how Diabolik got two stellar artists involved for this and Gringo Loco, and just why this world has such a hold on the imagination. As a bonus that I should probably also edit into a separate video, Mucci offers a guide to step into the films of Mario Bava, the filmmaker whose vision has a huge influence on this fun comic.

Enjoy — and tell me how I can make time for those movies this week!
